Best Hikes Near Colorado Springs describes the longer (6.25 mile round trip) Pancake Rocks Trail this way: “one of the finest day hikes in the Pikes Peak region. The trail offers it all–spectacular mountain scenery, willow-lined beaver ponds, hillsides of shimmering Aspen, far-reaching views, and unusual granite rock formations.” If you prefer something shorter but with much of the same allure–then Horsethief Falls is for you! This shorter trail shares the initial approach to Pancake Rocks but then continues to a shaded waterfall area. The perfect hike for a family or couple looking for a special memory without the extra work!

“Beautiful, short, if sometimes steep hike up to the falls. Very shaded, with some parts of the trail meeting up with the river (mosquitos) though not quite enough water to play in.”

“A beautiful and well-maintained trail. The elevation gain isn't terrible, but at 10000 ft you might feel the effort climbing up for a half mile. The falls looked great, with a healthy flow and not too much run-off even with the snowmelt. Turned it around early with the intention of returning soon. Also, that view of Sentinel Point is very tantalizing.“
